Oral health practice is one of the most sensitive issues. Even the dentists are still confused about what to do for oral hygiene and how to do it. Flossing is one thing that is usually encouraged by mostly Canadian dentists. But still, some Canadian dentists do not recommend it too much. So, in this scenario, there are many facts and myths regarding flossing. Here, in this article, we will keenly observe the facts and the myths about flossing.

Myth #1. Flossing only important when food got stuck in your teeth.
The first myth I will discuss here is, many people think that flossing is necessary for the stuck food in your teeth. But, this is not true.

The fact is you should floss to remove plaque from your teeth. By flossing you are able to get rid of the stuck food and the plaque. The plaque is harmful to your oral health. It may cause gums inflammation, tooth decay, and tooth loss. So, the key is to floss every day, not for the stuck food particles but also to remove regular plaque from your teeth.

Myth #2. Flossing is tough to do.
Another myth is flossing is tough to do. You cannot do flossing by yourself. But, this is also not true. You need to learn the specific technique of how to do flossing by your dentist.

The fact is, it is an easy process. You only need to learn the technique of flossing. You should buy a floss holder which is a Y-shaped tool. You can floss by this device by one hand and it is easy to hold. You can do your back teeth flossing by this device.


Myth #3. Flossing is a painful process.
Flossing is not a painful process at all. But, it is hurting and harmful for the people who are suffering from any gum disease or tooth pain.

The Fact.
 The fact is it is not painful if you use the right device and the right technique. It can be a little bit irritating and uncomfortable but not painful. Especially, if you are not suffering from any oral disease.

Myth #4. Flossing is not for bleeding gums.
It is usually said that do not floss when you see blood coming out from the gums. Bloody gums should not be the reason behind giving up the flossing. Because flossing is not the reason for the gum’s bleeding.

When you see blood while flossing it does not mean flossing is not for you. But, it indicates any gum or tooth disease. Always floss your teeth gently and smoothly. The people who floss their teeth forcefully, usually their gums bleed. But if you still see blood in your gums, visit your dentist immediately. It can be for any reason, you may not know about oral health. So, do not take any risk and stop flossing for some time.

Myth #5. Flossing is the reason behind worse gums.
Another myth is flossing make the gums worse. The general perception is that flossing recedes the gums but this is not true.

Flossing is not a reason behind receding gums. But the truth is flossing can save your gums from preceding. By flossing, you may get rid of plaque and stuck food particle which causes bacteria and gum disease. So, eventually flossing helps you in the prevention of bacteria and make your gums healthy and hygienic. 

Myth #6. Flossing is not for the people who use braces.
Do not floss while having braces is a very bad idea actually. It can be challenging while having braces but do not give up flossing.

The Fact.
You have to floss daily even you have braces. Because of braces lot of particles can get stuck between braces and teeth. They can cause bacteria and oral disease. So, floss daily even you have braces for best oral health.
